WHAT ARE THE KEY ISSUES OF THE FRENCH DEBATE ABOUT THE ENERGY TRANSITION?
- 1. Relaunching the dialogue and strengthening political consistency at the European level
If, in the long run, all the European countries must converge to the same results, several paths can be envisaged to conduct the energy transition. Every country has a different energy situation – with or without natural resources, with specific priorities linked to its history or culture (e.g. Fighting against energy scarcity or abandoning nuclear power) – that shape national energy policies. Nevertheless energy supply does not stop at the borders and a European dialogue, although it seems today a second-rate priority, is necessary to harmonize the tools of the transition (consistency of the support systems) while ensuring Europe’s energy security in the coming decades.
